Nambu Ironware, Small Arare Iron Kettle, 0.5L

$186.00

This authentic Nambu ironware kettle features the iconic Arare (hailstone) pattern, one of the most recognized designs in Japanese ironware craftsmanship. Each dot is individually applied by hand, creating a texture that is both visually stunning and functional.

Handcrafted in our Tohoku workshop using traditional sand mold casting techniques that have been refined over generations. The interior is untreated cast iron, which naturally mineralizes water and enhances its taste.

The kettle can be used directly on gas stovetops and produces a distinctive, melodic sound when the water reaches boiling temperature — a cherished feature of traditional tetsubin.

  • Authentic Nambu Tekki (南部鉄器) certified
  • Handcrafted using traditional sand mold casting
  • Arare (hailstone) pattern applied dot by dot
  • Natural iron interior — mineralizes water
  • Compatible with gas stovetops
  • Melodic boiling sound (tetsubin characteristic)
  • Dimensions: H 18cm × W 14cm (including handle)
  • Weight: approximately 1.2kg

Before First Use: Rinse the interior with water and boil water 2-3 times, discarding each batch.

Daily Use: After each use, empty remaining water while the kettle is still warm. Allow to air dry completely with the lid open.

Do Not: Use dish soap, abrasive cleaners, or scrub the interior. Never leave water standing in the kettle for extended periods.

Building the Patina: Over time, a white mineral layer will form inside — this is normal and desirable. It protects the iron and enhances the water quality.
